According to Statista’s Digital Music Outlook, the music streaming market size increased to US$25.84 billion in 2023 alone, and reached a total of 900 million users.
Statista Consumer Insights paid survey gives more details about which platforms are popular among music and audiobook lovers.
Originating from Sweden, Spotify is a leader in the United Kingdom, with 56% of respondents claiming they are the platform’s paid subscribers. The second place is taken by Amazon Music (44%), followed by Apple Music (28%) and YouTube Music (26%).
The share split is different in the United States. Spotify and Amazon Music are sharing the first place, with 44% of respondents. Apple Music is the third, with a bigger share of users (33%) than in the UK (26%).
YouTube Music is the fourth most popular platform in both countries, with 26% and 33% of respondents using it, respectively.
It’s interesting to see that different platforms occupy the 5th place. In the United States it’s Pandora, while Soundcloud is in the top 5 in the United Kingdom.
The popularity of these platforms among US and UK users suggests that they offer a compelling value proposition to users, such as a large music library, personalized recommendations, and high-quality audio.
