Welcome to Geek Updated. We build this site for mindful geeks – and as fellow geeks, we know that pure, unbroken focus is the single most valuable feature a website can offer, yet almost no one delivers it anymore.

Most of the web has turned into a noisy circus of interruptions. We take a different path. We cut out the annoying junk that ruins modern browsing so you can actually read, explore, and focus on what brought you here.

Here is how we run things, how we keep the lights on, and how we respect your time and attention.

No nasty ads

You will not find intrusive ads on Geek Updated. We hate pop-under banners, auto-playing video banners, and creepy third-party scripts that track you across the web and slow your browser to a crawl.

In fact, we pay $4 a month for a WordPress Personal plan specifically to strip out default automated WordPress ads.

We do not use Google AdSense, ad networks, or aggressive tracking networks. The only promotional material on this site is our curated featured products section, clearly marked below the posts and on home page.

No stick-to-screen videos

Many sites force an auto-playing video player to load the second you open a page. It sticks to the side of your screen, eats your mobile data, and forces you to hunt down a tiny “X” button just so you can read the actual article.

We do not use floating video players or forced video stream embeds. When you visit an article on Geek Updated, you get straight to the text and images you came for, with zero screen clutter hijacking your view.

No irritating pop-up alerts

We refuse to use the single most annoying feature on the internet: pop-ups. You will never get hit with immediate browser notification prompts, floating live-chat bubbles, exit-intent overlays when you move your mouse to close a tab, or aggressive email newsletter sign-up boxes that block the text.

We let you read in peace without demanding your email address or trying to force notifications onto your device.

To be 100% correct, the only notice you will have to dismiss on this site is the basic cookie notice. As a European-based site, complying with mandatory EU privacy rules means we have to show it, but we keep it subtle and non-intrusive.

Limited & necessary cookies

Like almost every site, we use cookies – small text files saved to your browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) to make things run smoothly. Unlike most sites, we keep tracking to an absolute minimum. We only rely on two types:

geeupdated.com cookies – basic local cookies from our own domain that remember simple site preferences, such as whether you dismissed our cookie notice.
wordpress.com cookies – essential operational cookies required by the underlying WordPress platform to handle site security, core page loading, and basic functional features.

We do not use cookie networks to build behavioral profiles on you or resell your data to third parties.

How to check which cookies a site is using

If you are curious about what cookies any site (including ours) sets on your device, you can check in a few clicks (we use Google Chrome as an example):

Click the tune/settings icon (or the lock icon) to the far left of the website URL in your address bar.
Select Cookies and site data.
Click Manage cookies and site data to see the exact list of active cookies and storage items.

How to block or disable cookies

If you prefer to block cookies entirely across the web, you can manage this directly in your browser (we use Google Chrome as an example):

Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of Chrome and open Settings.
Go to Privacy and security in the left menu.
Select Third-party cookies (or Site settings ⇢ Cookies).
Choose your preferred level of restriction, such as Block third-party cookies or Block all cookies.

Affiliate links & site funding

Since we completely ban display ad networks from our site, affiliate links are the primary way we cover hosting fees, domain costs, and the time spent building content.

Geek Updated participates in affiliate marketing programs: Amazon, Skimlinks, and Zazzle. When you click a product link on our site and make a purchase on a merchant store, we may earn a small referral commission – typically between 1% and 4% on Amazon, at no extra cost to you.

We only link to products we genuinely find interesting, well-designed, or valuable. An affiliate link never changes the price you pay or influences our editorial opinion.

On-Page Transparency: Whenever a post contains these links, you will see a clear note at the top or/and bottom stating: “If you buy an item via this post, we may get a small affiliate fee at no cost to you.”

How we use AI

We use artificial intelligence to help bring Geek Updated to life – think of it like having a super-fast research assistant who never complains about the weather or asks for coffee breaks.

Specifically, we use AI to help visualize product design concepts, enhance and clean up photo assets, and speed up raw data research across the web. However, AI is strictly a tool in our workflow. Every piece of content, final image select, editorial decision, and publishing click is executed and vetted by human hands.

To keep things 100% transparent, even though AI isn’t used on every single piece of content, we add a clear disclaimer at the top of our posts letting you know we use AI tools in creating or illustrating the article: “Some content uses AI assistance”.
