Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 5 – what we know so far

Will Kindle Paperwhite be released this year? Will it feature adjustable warm light? Will it be available in white?

More and more Kindle fans are waiting for the new generation of Amazon’s most popular e-reader model – the Paperwhite.

The current model is already two years old, and – having in mind its price level – a replacement combined with upgrade is more than needed.

Kindle Paperwhite 5 – what we know so far

It will most probably be released next year

  • Amazon is putting more stress on Alexa-powered devices. Introducing the new Kindle, especially the model with a bunch of considerable improvements, is a huge cost.
  • The demand for the current model is still high. It was not available before Prime Day. Now, some versions will be back on stock just for Black Friday.

It should feature adjustable warm light

  • The next model should feature a major improvement. The most sought after feature is adjustable warm light.
  • Warm light is offered only by Kindle Oasis 3, but competitors have it already for a long time.
  • Amazon will have to add the feature to a middle range model to remain the leading brand in the e-reader industry.
  • Adjustable warm light is a feature that lets you reduce blue light tones in the evening. Warm light will help reduce eye strain and prevent problems with sleep.

Other things we expect to see

  • With the growing interest in audiobooks, we could see bigger storage options. 8 GB may be kept but the bigger storage variant may be set at 64 GB.
  • The full Amazon logo may be replaced by Amazon smile icon, the way it’s used on the 2019 basic Kindle.
  • The current shape is more than enough to fit the new warm light technology, so we don’t expect to see any essential improvements.
  • We don’t expect to see the white version. With the warm & orange front light, the white bezel may look ugly.
  • It would be great to see the white Kindle Paperwhite, but the color may be used only on the back.
